MSV already has two Time Trials under their belts in 2010. With several more Time Trials to go and the State Championship MSV is showing they have the legs to compete.

Main Street Velo’s Matt Fegenbush, Rob Grissom and Gene Zaparanick-Brown competed in the second of the Main Street Bikes TT series. Tom Waggener and Todd heady were running the race like a well oiled machine along with Todd’s excellent staff at HeadFirstPerformance.com.

Matt Fegenbush finished 5th in the 20K and shaved exactly a minute off his time!

Rob Grissom finished 8th, using non-aero equipment, and shaved a minute and 20 seconds off of his time!

Gene Zaparanick-Brown takes 6th place in the 40K TT course for his first TT of the season and put in a very respectable 1:13:10, using non-aero equipment.

The weather couldn’t have been better for a TT in April. It was warm and not to windy for a change.

At the first TT in the series Main Street Velo’s Tom Waggener, David Shelton, Matt Fegenbush, David Lane, James Smith, Jason Monk, Robert Grissom and David Sac turned out for one very windy March TT. The head winds on the back of the course measured 24.5 MPH at times.

It was a 1, 2  finish for Main Street Velo in the 20K course.

Tom Waggener turned in a blistering 00:31:50:00 for first place

David Shelton turned in a 00:33:12:30 for second place

MSV also had 5 top Ten finishers!

5    Matt Fegenbush 34:42.30
7    David Lane 34:54.40
8    James Smith 35:14.40
9    Jason Monk 35:24.50
10    Robert Grissom 37:41.60
11    David Sac 39:34.10

See you a the next TT May 16th.

Cyclocross Summary

As the road season begins, here are a few reflections on the 2009 Ohio Valley Cyclocross series. These events were well organized, well attended, and lots of fun. Cyclocross tends to attract spectators. The racing is comical to watch. The traditional food and music make it easy to spend a day at each event.

Tom Waggener earned 9th in the Cat 4 division. This was impressive in two ways. The rankings are based on your top seven finishes and Tom was only able to attend six events. In addition Tom was racing with the young guys, who climb like goats, because he didn’t realize he was eligible to race in the 35+ division. Chad Needham performed well in the Cat 4 35+ division. He only had time for two events, but won the race in Lexington and finished near the front in the Louisville finale. Chad’s aerobic capacity and fearless riding make him a natural for cyclocross. David Lane had some success early in the OVCX season and came back to win the Cat 4 45+ division. Special thanks to Chad who accidentally ran over David’s competition in the Louisville finale. All three racers will probably upgrade to Cat 3 next season.

Cyclocross is great fun and surprising safe sport given all the wrecks and mishaps. This sport is growing in popularity. Since Louisville landed the 2013 Elite Cyclo-cross World Championships and the 2012 and 2013 Masters Cyclo-cross World Championships, this region is likely to get a lot of attention.

Tom has been developing a cyclocross course in Shelbyville, racers in Lexington have been using Veterans Park for a few years, and Frankfort also has a practice course. If you haven’t tried cyclocross yet, consider gearing up for the 2010 season this Fall.

Main Street Velo Racing Merges with Sunrise Bakery Racing

New team emerges for 2010 race season.

Sunrise Bakery Racing LogoMain Street Velo Logo

Main Street Velo (MSV) and Sunrise Bakery Racing have decided to combine their efforts for the 2010 race season.  The team merger occurred after a season of friendly competition and cooperation between the two teams.  MSV was headed by the Bikes on Main bike shop on Main Street in Shelbyville, while Sunrise Bakery is located on Main Street in downtown Lexington.

The 2009 season was the second for MSV and the first for the Sunrise Bakery team. Both teams showed strong improvements throughout the season, with many members moving up in the racing categories, while also boasting several podium and top 10 finishes.

The two teams are focused on supporting riders new to racing, including youth, men, and women, and to providing a place to meet new friends while having a lot of fun in the process.  They share a common ideal that is to provide support and to teach new racers the fundamentals of racing, while continuing to push for more success and improvement in the higher category races.

One of the highlights of this development is the continued support of the women’s team, who formerly raced with the Sunrise team.  The women’s team is currently 5 strong, and is rapidly gaining experience and strength.  They proved to be a strong group who worked together well at the 2008 Blue Grass State Games. They hope to build on that success for next year and would gladly welcome new members.

The new team looks to 2010 with high hopes.  The new MSV looks to secure new sponsors, to provide opportunity for the women’s team to attend more races, to make their presence know in the competitive Cat. 3 division, and also build on last year’s success in the men’s Cat. 4/5 division.  They plan to secure another top 5 in the McDonald’s Spring Series, and will be traveling to 6 different states to race throughout the season.

The new team will be represented by over 30 talented and respected riders from Louisville, Lexington, Shelbyville, Waddy, and Bowling Green, KY, and have high expectations for more success in 2010.

Thinking about joing a team?

This is one of the busiest times of year for us at Main Street Velo Racing. This is when we receive several requests to join the team. If you are interested in joining the team please email Rob Grissom for more details. We will be hosting a Meet and Greet Ride next month to introduce team hopefuls to the existing team members. This is not a try out, it just just gives all potential members and existing members to make sure that our team is a good fit for them.

The event will be scheduled soon and will be posted here on the team site as well as emailed to all of our new and current members registered via the Main Street Velo Yahoo Group.
